Lecture capture has one hard constraint nobody else has: there is never an operator. The system either tracks the lecturer reliably or the recordings are unusable.
Recommended setup
- Lecture halls: OK-4K20X with AI presenter tracking — the lecturer can pace the full stage and stay framed
- Standard classrooms: OK-SD12X at 1080p60 — smaller files for semester-long storage
- Two angles: add a rear camera for the class-wide reaction shot
- Wireless lav: OK-WM2 when room acoustics will not carry the speaker
Tracking behaviour worth testing
Two things decide whether auto tracking survives contact with a real lecturer: whether it ignores students walking through frame, and how it recovers when a projector screen occludes them for a few seconds. Test both before committing to a rollout.
Storage planning
4K at 30fps consumes roughly 3-5 GB per lecture hour depending on encoder settings. Across a semester of daily lectures in ten rooms, 1080p60 is often the pragmatic choice and still comfortably readable for remote students.
